The Sperafico Family will keep on racing
Following Rafael Sperafico’s tragic death in the last Stock Car Light round of the season in Interlagos, some wondered whether the future of the Sperafico clan in automobile racing would remain the same.
According to Dilso, Rodrigo and Ricardo Sperafico’s father, all family members will, as an homage to Rafael, continue to perfect their techniques and fight for more victories and titles.
Dilso also stated that Rafael’s death should start a discussion on racing safety and defends more aggressive punishments for irresponsible drivers instead of only demanding fines or a drive through.
Rodrigo Sperafico of GenĂ©ricos BiosintĂ©tica Stock Car (Volkswagen) says his cousin’s death should stimulate a review on all safety procedures taken at speedways in the country. “We must discuss our safety in venues such as TarumĂŁ and Londrina. These are places that haven’t been improved in years and are extremely dangerous”.
Rodrigo’s twin brother Ricardo Sperafico of Vivanz 307 Racing (Peugeot) believes no one is his family will give up racing. “I’m convinced if it was someone else in the family Rafael would not have left the tracks. He would have kept on racing. That is why I will race for me and for him”, Ricardo affirms.
Milton Sperafico was the second member of the family to compete professionally. He also believes racing is the best way of validating everything Rafael did for the sport. “Racing cars is our sport. We do what we like and understand and accept the risks and dangers we are subject to. We can only hope that Rafa’s death becomes a warning flag for safety measures that must be taken. We are not blaming anyone, nor looking for someone to blame, but there are a series of things we can improve for ourselves and all of those who love automobile racing in Brazil”.
