Race director comments on the tragic accident
Race director Carlos Montagner was taken aback with the brutality of the accident: “The impact was very strong, and by my calculations Russo crashed into Rafael Sperafico’s car at about 180 km/h. In the way Rafael received the impact, it would be very difficult for anyone to survive”.
For Montagner, ideally nothing would ever happen, but in the autoracing world, that is impossible. “It is a high risk sport and whoever is involved in it knows they are subject to almost anything, as Rafael unfortunately was.” finished Montagner.
