Stock Car Light driver André Bragantini declines invitation to race in 2 Nextel Cup rounds
Vice-leader in the Stock Car Light championship, André Bragantini Jr., Nova/ RR Competições was invited to participate in the next two Nextel Cup races in Buenos Aires and Tarumã. This coincides with the access category’s break, which ends in Rio de Janeiro on the 18th of November, for round 8.
“They came to me and gave me a chance to race in Nextel Cup since the Stock Car Light category is on a break. I talked to my sponsors and Jorge de Freitas, the team boss, and we decided not to participate in any Nextel Cup races this year. We don’t want to interfere in the Light championship considering we’re doing so well in a tough, competitive year”, explains the driver.
Bragantini is only three points away from championship leader Norberto Gresse, AMG Motorsport. “We will continue to focus on this dispute. There have been talks about next year and things are moving along well. It still depends on a few factors thoughâ€, commented André.
Bragantini did not reveal which teams sought him out, but stated that his chances of racing in Nextel Cup in 2008 are very positive. “What I can say to the fans and everyone who follows Stock Car is that negotiations are underway, and that I have big chances of competing in Nextel Cup, which is my greatest dream”, he concludes.
