Nextel Cup: Paulo Gomes and Carlos Alves to race in Carlos Alves Competion Team

As of Brasília, Paulo Gomes and Carlos Alves will be teammates for Carlos Alves Competition Team (Volkswagen). These two experienced drivers will now try to qualify the team for the 2008 season.

Carlão complimented his new teammate, Paulão. “All of the professionals working in auto racing have great respect for Paulo Gomes. It is a privilege to have a driver with so much experience and a great sense of responsibility on my team,”

With a sixth place finish in the seventh round in Curitiba, Carlos Alves believes the car has been fine tuned, and hopes to repeat the performance in Brasília.“We finally managed to balance the car, and we will do the same for Paulão. I believe we will both qualify into the top 10,” he adds.

Paulo Gomes is a 4-time Stock Car champion. Only recently returned to the tracks as a driver after a four year break, his last race was in 2003. “I felt very comfortable sitting behind the wheel again in Curitiba. I’ve been away for four years, but I can still achieve good results in Brasília, with a circuit very much to my liking. If my car is fine tuned like Carlão’s was in Curitiba, I will give these new kids a run for their money”.
